Contains spoilers to Assassin’s Creed Unity & Rogue
Assassin’s Creed: Unity is set after Abstergo commercialises the Animus technology as Helix, a video game system which allows users to relive history for entertainment and education. You kick off with a tutorial prologue set during King Phillip’s purge of the Templars, but soon after that an agent of the Assassins breaks in, and informs you that Abstergo is using the Helix to highjack your brain’s processing power for its own ends as well as present a false account of history. Rather than continue on, she suggests you work for the Assassins.
Assassin’s Creed Rogue: the switch
Game: The 1755 Lisbon earthquake that occurred in the city of Lisbon on 1 November 1755 was caused by an artifact situated under the Feast of the Saints Cathedral, which was triggered by the then Assassin Shay Cormac, who went there under the order of Achilles Davenport, the Mentor of the Colonial Assassins, to retrieve the artifact
In the aftermath of the quake, hundreds were killed, thousands were left homeless, and Shay was so deeply affected by the event that he abandoned his Order and switches allegiance to the Templars.
Fact: The 1755 Lisbon earthquake, also known as the Great Lisbon Earthquake, occurred in the Kingdom of Portugal on Saturday, 1 November 1755, the holiday of All Saints’ Day, at around 09:40 local time. In combination with subsequent fires and a tsunami (maremoto in Portuguese), the earthquake almost totally destroyed Lisbon and adjoining areas. Seismologists today estimate the Lisbon earthquake had a magnitude in the range 8.5–9.0
The earthquake accentuated political tensions in the Kingdom of Portugal and profoundly disrupted the country’s colonial ambitions. The event was widely discussed and dwelt upon by European Enlightenment philosophers, and inspired major developments in theodicy (i.e. attempt to answer the question of why a good God permits the manifestation of evil) and in the philosophy of the sublime. As the first earthquake studied scientifically for its effects over a large area, it led to the birth of modern seismology and earthquake engineering.
Assassin’s Creed Unity: very ending
Ending: Arno hiding the corpse of the Sage among dozens of skeletons thus no one could use his bones (screwing over the Templars).
